Soft Surfboard Racks

Soft Surfboard Racks are the ideal way to transport your surfboard to and from the water. They practically fit any vehicle, as long as you don't have any aftermarket racks, and can be installed in a matter of minutes.
All soft surfboard racks work basically in the same way, which use some form for strap system that runs through your vehicle, along with some type of pad to keep your boards in place. Below are some of the top soft surfboard racks on the market and the differences between them. In no particular order we have:
Arguable one of the most popular soft racks on the market, due to its ease of use and cheap price, this surfboard rack works using one large single strap for each of the two pads included. You first run the strap through your vehicle and thread the strap through the cam buckle, then over your surfboards and through the other cam buckle. Installation of this rack is as simple as they come. Like most soft surfboard racks, this rax uses standard cam buckles, which once threaded, can be pulled tight hands free. Simple thumb the buckle and pull to release.
2. Creatures of Leisure Wrap Rax
The Creatures of Leisure Wrap Rax soft surfboard rack has the same essential design as the block surf, but works in a different manner. The surfboard rack has two separate straps (per pad), one for wrapping around your vehicle, and one for wrapping around your surfboards. On this particular rack, straps also thread through cam buckles, but are centered in the middle of your vehicle, and middle of your surfboards, as shown on the cover in the picture above. Top cam buckle is padded to protect your surfboards.
For this rack, you can also tighten the pad to car contact from inside your vehicle. Although you will have to get out to tighten the pad to surfboard strap. On the block surf rack, you can tighten pad to surfboard from your vehicle by opening your car door and pulling on the strap, but may have to get out to tighten pad to car, due to the length of the single strap.
The FCS Premium Soft Racks work in the same manner as the Creatures of Leisure Wrap Raxs, but does not use cam buckles, but rather a "D" ring system. The "D" ring system takes a little longer to tighten and pull off, but is less likely to move once tightened compared to a cam buckle. The "D" ring works by threading the strap the a bucked around the "D" ring and then back through the buckle again.
Simply pull strap to tighten once looped through. One of the nice things about these soft surfboards is they are by far the smallest to carry around compared to other soft surfboard racks. While the pictures doesn't do them justice, all soft surfboard racks shown are about the same height, however the FCS are much thinner, meaning much easier to store when not in use.
The Ocean & Earth Wrap Rax are most like the Block Surf and Creatures Racks. Meaning they have a two strap system (per pad) like Creatures of Leisure, but the buckles are keep on the edge rather than the middle. They are like the Block Surf racks in which they use the same pad set up and the exact same type of buckles. One of the different, and faster features with the Ocean & Earth Wrap Raxs is that the straps are cut on angle at the ends. This makes them much easier to thread through the cam buckles compared to other strap designs.
The Curve Lock Down Racks are in a league of their own. These are the only soft surfboard racks that feature a cocoon effect on your surfboards. As you can see, with the other soft racks, they work in a way that pulls your surfboards onto a pad, which is then pulled and wrapped around your car. With the Curve Lock Down Racks, they wrap around your surfboards and then wrap around your car.
These racks use a single loop to pull both surfboards and rack down onto your vehicle helping to reduce side to side and up and down movements. Set up is also quick with a single tightening point.
Well there you have the top five soft surfboard racks on the market. All of these racks work really well and it's just a matter of preference and brand choice when it comes to decision time. But hopefully by now you have a better understanding about how each of these wraps rax works and how they can better sever you and your boards.
